Baccarat Tips

Baccarat is known as an exclusive game in the casino arena and while historically this might have been so for the land casinos, the online world has opened up the excitement of baccarat to everyone with a computer and an internet connection. No longer are players required to wear ties and stand in roped off areas of a casino lounge – if you have a computer you are welcome to join the world of baccarat – even in your pyjamas.

Baccarat is also known as Punto Banco and basically involves making two bets – either on the banker (banco) or player (punto). Sometimes a bet known as a standoff is also played, but this is more rare.

Two hands are dealt and the player has to bet which one will win or which one will tie. The payoff is generally even money, except in the case of a standoff where the payoff is 8-1 or 9-1. Each hand consists of either 2 or 3 cards and if either hand has a total or 8 or 9 it is called a natural and no more cards are dealt. If no natural is dealt, the dealer may decide to deal a third card and the hand with the highest amount wins.

The rules of baccarat are very simple and a few extra tips would help the player gain maximum benefit of the game.

* Baccarat is considered by many as the purest game of chance. While the third card rules are important, they generally do not need to be memorized by the player in order to know how to play. The game is normally closely monitored so if any mistakes occur, they will be picked up on quickly.
* Standoff bets and tie bets are not recommended and a player should try and avoid them.
* Following a streak for a long time is not a good idea. If the banco or punto have been having a win or lose for three consecutive bets, either stop betting until the streak changes or move along to the streak.
* The 5% tax that is generally charged on a banco win should not be a deterrent to the player – it is basically balanced out by the fact that banco wins more than punto.

Card values in baccarat –

All cards in baccarat have their face value, except for tens which have no value. Aces are worth only one point. Suits have absolutely no role in baccarat and all the suits are equal. In baccarat only single digits are counted so any card count that reaches over ten, the higher digit is dropped. Example 14 is counted as 4 and 27 is counted as 7.
